FAQ

Installation

The lock should be installed by a certified technician, a trained dealer, or an approved school maintenance technician.  The installation instructions are included with the lock, but can also be viewed here: Lockdown Installation Instructions

The lock can be uninstalled from a door and moved to a new door.  Ensure that the lock is fully charged and paired or repaired to accessories that are associated with the lock.

The lock is always installed on the interior side of the room being protected.  It comes with a bracket kit for inward and outward swinging doors. The lock itself is universal.

The egress button should be placed 36-48 inches above the floor, at about doorknob height, close to opening side of the door so an occupant can press the button easily during an egress situation.

Operation

The motion sensor has a limited field of view that is built to focus on the door lever to detect a user’s hand.  It is heat activated and should be placed 3-5 inches above the lever with the sensor lens pointing down to ensure proper operation.

Power is monitored in the application with a battery meter for each lock in the main lock status page under the lock/unlock button.

It depends on the layout of the building, but 20 feet to 60 feet depending on the walls.

Maintenance

The lock has been tested to last longer than 27 years of active daily use with.  The battery will last 1000 charging cycles before it needs to be replaced

The lock needs to be charged annually depending on how often it is used.  It is tested to last up to 1000 charging cycles over the life of the battery.

The lock power status is always present in the iPhone/Android app so you can see how much power is remaining.  The lock will also present an audible tone at 10% when the power is low.  At 10% the lock will enter a low power state that will not allow you to electronically activate the lock.  It will, however, allow you to deactivate it electronically up to 50 times until you charge it.

You can plug the lock into a wall outlet using the approved and provided USB wall plug.  You can also use the approved charging cable and attach it to a UL approved battery charging pack.

Approximately 8 Hours for a full charge.

The battery is a standard coin-cell battery and should be changed during annual inspections.  The life of the battery is tested to last a year. If the main Lockdown unit indicates a lower battery, the maintenance technician should check the battery level of the Key Fob and decide if it needs to be replaced.

Insert a small screwdriver into the small slot position on the crease between the “clamshell” fob housing. Twist the screwdrive to pry apart the two halves. This will expose a rubber gasket. The Gasket can be removed safely and under that you will see the coin-cell battery holder.

The main battery is a standard coin-cell battery and should be changed during annual inspections. The life of the battery is tested to last a year.  A 9 volt backup battery is installed with the sensor to ensure that the sensor doesn’t lose power during the annual use period. If the main Lockdown unit indicates a lower battery, the maintenance technician should check the battery level of the main board and the backup 9V and decide if either battery needs to be replaced.
